![]() ![]() Timelapses actually seem like a solid feature and if you compare the price of the Arsenal with something like the LRTimelapse Pro timer from Gunther Wegner then it suddenly doesn’t seem like such bad value. In fact every aspect of the control of the camera through the app was better on the 7D2. Focus stacking works far better on my eight year old 7D2 than it does on my year old X-T4. As of this time pano mode is not available in the app - it’s apparently in beta and will be released in a firmware update. I bought it for the panorama, focus stacking mode (since focus bracketing mode on the X-T4 is awful) and the holy grail Timelapse modes. To conclude I’d say I was disappointed but unsurprised by the performance of the Arsenal 2. I still preferred my own HDR render using the source RAW files in LR but the Arsenal JPEGs were good too and ultimately it was down to a matter of personal taste rather than technical implementation. I tested it with multiple focus stacks and an 18-55 kit lens and it worked correctly on all occasions though the device did lock up completely and felt very hot to the touch.Įxposure stack was also better on the 7D2 producing a better blended image than X-T4. Handheld mode also worked more consistently on the Canon and seemed to be making much more sensible decisions about aperture/exposure/ISO. I was surprised to find that I had more latitude in the sky’s highlights and better colour rendition than I could pull out of the source RAW file in LR. It had no problem controlling focus and was far more stable in the various modes than the X-T4.ĭeepColour mode seemed much better suited to the Canon and the resulting images I produced were better than either a JPEG shot on auto or the source RAW file post-processed using my usual tweaks. Overall the device worked far better on the Canon than it did on the X-T4. The preview video is really helpful for deciding if you want to persist with the Timelapse. I haven’t tried the holy grail mode yet but the basic smart mode chose a sensible aperture. Smart Timelapse was the most stable mode on the X-T4 and worked well. It certainly wasn’t spitting out shots I’d be happy to stick straight on social media as per the marketing claims. ![]() It does blend the images but on the landscape shots I took it often produced a bland washed-out image. The settings for this mode are somewhat bewildering and it takes a lot of experimentation to find the correct number of shots and step size for any situation.Įxposure stack was functional at best. I compared the rendered stack that Arsenal produced against a blend of the RAW files in Photoshop and it did a decent enough job. Quite often it failed completely and on many occasions looked like it was working but ended up shooting everything at the same focal point with a huge ISO. As above it made very questionable choices of camera settings.įocus Stack works well - when it works - which is about 30% of the time. It only worked on two occasions and the images it produced were inferior to a JPEG shot on auto. Often the device would select ISO6400 for no reason at all in broad daylight. I tried it in various situations to evaluate the so-called machine learning that Ryan Stout implement on the device and found its choices of aperture, exposure and ISO to be questionable. ![]() The DeepColour DNG file was also 150Mb which seems somewhat excessive. The source RAW file that Arsenal renders its DeepColour image from looked far more natural when post-processed in LR and PS. I found the DeepColour mode to be inferior to a JPEG shot on auto using the Velvia simulation. Here are my thoughts on those modes for each camera. I tested the DeepColour, Handheld, Focus Stack, Exposure Stack and Smart Timelapse modes. On one occasion the device stopped working and completely froze up and I noticed that it was very hot to the touch. Sometimes it would work perfectly, sometimes it would start and then fail mid-sequence and sometimes it would fail to work at all. On the X-T4 the device performed erratically. I didn’t have any dramas getting the app to connect to Arsenal and either camera. ![]() I have a Fujifilm X-T4 and a Canon 7D Mark II and I’ve tested the Arsenal 2 Pro with both cameras using my iPhone 12 Pro Max.I used the supplied cable with my X-T4 and a third party uGreen one for my Canon that I picked up on Amazon. I just thought I'd give my impressions of the device for anyone who's curious because most of the posts in here pertain to issues people are having with specific camera/smartphone combinations. Got my Arsenal 2 Pro a few weeks ago delivered to me here in Australia and I've been testing it and its various modes. ![]()
